Remote Volunteer Activity: Assemble Super Snack Bags

Are you looking for a meaningful and safe volunteer activity that your whole family can complete together? The Karsh Center collects volunteer-made snack bags to distribute here as share with other social service organizations that use them as part of outreach and services provided to our neighbors who are unhoused. Help our neighbors who are unhoused by purchasing supplies for and assembling Super Snack Bags!

What Goes Into A Super Snack Bag?

A super snack bag includes each of the following items, in gallon-size ziplock bag. Each item should be non-perishable (i.e. no fresh fruit), and factory sealed (i.e. please don’t get a family size bag of jerky, and divide it up into smaller bags).

  • Bottle of water, 8oz or 16 oz
  • Fruit cup or applesauce cup
  • Trail mix or granola bar
  • Salty snack (individual bag of pretzels, chips, etc.)
  • Individual serving of a non-perishable protein (snack pouch of tuna or chicken, or in individual bag of jerky).

For health safety reasons, if you would like to include utensils, please only include pre-packaged utensils (like the plastic-wrapped set of fork/spoon/knife/napkin that you may be given with a takeout order).

Dropping Off Your Snack Bags:

Please contact volunteers@karshcenter.org to schedule a time to drop off your snack bags. When you drop off your snack bags, please:

  • Pack them in a box, so that we can transport and store them without destroying them.
  • Write your main contact’s name on the outside of the box(es). If multiple boxes, please make sure each box is labeled with the main contact’s name.
  • Complete this in-kind donation form, and include it with your kits (inside or taped to a box is okay). Even if you do not want a donation acknowledgement, this information is important for us to have track participation and information about where our food supplies come from!

Thank you for your support of our Super Snack Bag Project!

If you have any questions, please reach out to our team at volunteers@karshcenter.org.

If you are part of a school, company or other group that is interested in making a larger quantity of snack bags (100 or more), please contact our team at volunteers@karshcenter.org.
