As the Los Angeles summer heat finally sets in, the Karsh Center is proud to help offer client families activities and tools to help beat the heat and enjoy the final weeks of summer as children prepare to go “back” to school, whatever that will look like in these next few weeks. Thanks to Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Religious School, families who came to the Karsh Center last week left with not only essentials, but also a “summer fun bag,” which the Religious School teens prepared as part of their at-home Shabbaton gathering in July!
Twenty-one teens prepared more than forty bags to help children in our community enjoy the last days of summer, sharing items such as a reusable water bottle, bubbles, stickers, an art project, a yo-yo, temporary tattoos, a bookmark, and crayons.
“I was really excited about these items because they were all either practical or hands on activities,” shared Emily Greenfeld, Youth Engagement Coordinator. “The teens loved making the bags. We met on Zoom and talked about what the Karsh Center is, what services are offered, and then listened to some music and decorated and filled the bags together.”

The teens had a great time preparing these items, and we have no doubt that children in our community will have even more fun using them!
