The Karsh Center was honored to participate in Getty 25 Celebrates Koreatown! This festival on June 11th – 12th was part of a series of free festivals held byGetty in communities around Los Angeles County, including Crenshaw, Inglewood, Koreatown, Lincoln Heights/East LA, Long Beach, Pacoima, Reseda, San Gabriel Valley, Watts, and Wilmington. These festivals, which were produced by Community Arts Resources (CARS), celebrated both the Getty Center’s 25th anniversary and the local communities’ vibrant histories and cultures.
Kicking off May 14 and running through August 28, Getty25’s two-day festivals feature curated experiences reflective of each community. The Koreatown festival included interactive workshops, live music and performances, an artisan marketplace, food trucks, giveaways, photo booths, and more.
The Karsh Center was invited by our Collaborator Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC) to be part of the Community Advisory Board for this event. We worked with many incredible local organizations to conduct community outreach and select community organizations, local artists and food vendors to participate in the event.
At the festival itself , the Karsh Center hosted an interactive hygiene kit packing station, where visitors who came from Koreatown and all over LA County could help assemble hundreds of hygiene kits for those in need! Many people took them to give to people in their communities who were unhoused, while others donated the kits back to the Karsh Center to give to our clients.
We are proud to be a part of such a generous community, and so grateful for the opportunity to help plan and participate in this vibrant festival. Thank you to all of the organizations who made this possible, for all community members who came out to enjoy the festival, and congratulations to Getty on 25 years!
