Located in the heart of Koreatown, the Karsh Center is immersed in one of the densest and most diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles. With a strong sense of community at the heart of our work, we’re highlighting some of our community’s favorite spots in this dynamic part of Los Angeles. Clients, volunteers, Collaborators, and staff shared their most beloved Koreatown restaurants, highlighting the centrality of food to our lives in Los Angeles.

“Our family likes the Paris Baguette. It’s a bakery and pastry shop that’s really tasty. I eat there all the time. The long baguettes are great for breakfast, you can eat them with jam or margarine. And the pastries are delicious.”

“If I have to study and I want to get out of the house, there’s a lot of cafes in Koreatown. I’ve been visiting Mr. Coffee a lot. I usually get an iced Americano. I’m always tempted by a slice of cake but I try not to get too many snacks there because it’ll stop me from getting dinner.”

“There’s a place called Roll Roll Roll on Wilshire. The Karsh Center is on the east side of Hobart and Roll Roll Roll is to the west of Hobart on Wilshire Boulevard. It’s a really simple place with Japanese sushi. A friend of mine and I go there and I order the same thing every time because I’m a vegetarian. I eat the avocado roll and I can’t go wrong with that. And of course we have a lot of Korean markets. California Market is on 5th and Western. It’s a really nice grocery store. They really have the best fruit, it’s always so fresh. They also have their prepared vegetables, they call them sides, like daikon, cucumbers, radish, lotus root. You can eat those all year long and you probably won’t repeat a dish.”

“One of my favorite places to eat is the HMS Bounty, off of Wilshire. It’s named after the ship the HMS Bounty, it’s got a nautical theme. It’s American cuisine, they’ve got burgers, steaks, Italian food as well. They have great daily specials. They’ll do a soup of the day, ribs or different kinds of pasta. They have a good cheeseburger with fries which is a great deal, too. The people who work there are great and they always say hi when I get there. There’s a lot of regulars and it’s a place to feel comfortable and get a good meal.”

“I really like the Koreatown Pizza Company. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Karsh Center. They have this sweet potato crust that’s really good. The crust is filled with sweet potato and it’s kind of crispy and cheesy also. That’s one of my more recent obsessions. Cassell’s down the street is also really good, that’s burgers.”

“My favorite restaurant in Koreatown, Nandarang, is literally across the street from the Karsh Center. They serve a bulgogi spaghetti that is some really yummy fusion food, as well as kimchi fried rice. What I love most about Koreatown is the variety that you see around. At Cassell’s you can’t go wrong, it’s a staple around here that’s been here for a very long time. They’ve got hamburgers and melts. The list goes on, it’s a unique little area of Los Angeles and we’re excited to be in the heart of it.”
