Big Give 2022: Ways to Volunteer
This year, we will once again need the support of volunteers from near and far to create the experience and support that Big Give 2022 offers our community! Read on for more information about remote activities (volunteer activities that are hands-on, but designed to be done in your own homes) and on-site activities (registration-required activities that will take place at the Karsh Center on Big Give Sunday, following our COVID-19 safety protocols).
Remote Volunteering
Prepare Hygiene Kits, Winter Kits & Children’s Activity Kits
Set-up a Big Give-style assembly line in your own home and prepare hygiene kits, winter kits to bring some warmth to our neighbors who are unhoused, or children’s activity kits to help the youngest members of our community have some extra fun and explore their creativity this holiday season. Drop off will take place at the Karsh Center only on Monday, 11/21, between 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Register for kit-making below, so that we can keep you informed about any updates for this project, including drop-off procedures, and updates about how the kits are used!
No-Sew Blankets

Take on this favorite annual Big Give activity right from your own living room!
Register to pick up a no-sew blanket making kit from the Karsh Center while supplies last. Blanket kit pick-up will take place at the Karsh Center on Wednesday, 11/9, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm, and drop off will happen on Monday, November 21 from 9:00am – 4:00pm.
There is also an option to pick up blankets from a private home in Westwood on Wednesday, 11/9 from 3pm – 6pm, and drop off at that same location on Monday, 11/21, from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Address provided upon registration. Thanks to Women of Wilshire for spearheading this project and hosting this alternative pick-up/drop-off location!

On-Site Volunteering
This year, we are proud to host Big Give using a “client choice” model, and instead of pre-packing bags for each of our guests, we will invite each person who is registered to make selections about what items they would like in their bags, based on what is easiest for them to prepare and enjoy this Thanksgiving. We need dedicated volunteers to help in a number of different roles to make this a great day for our community. These roles include but are not limited to:
- Welcoming guests and helping way finding
- Checking in registered guests
- Sorting/bagging fresh produce for distribution
- Operating food stations, refilling supplies, and handing guests their selected items
- Running a photo booth and survey station
About volunteer registration
Volunteer spaces at Big Give 2022 are limited. For safety purposes and to make sure that every member of our community has a great day at the Big Give, every individual on-site volunteer must register through this volunteer process ahead of time.
- Each individual coming to volunteer, even if they are a member of a family group volunteering together, will need to sign up for an individual volunteer slot. To sign up as a family or household group…
- Complete a separate sign-up for each individual in your family or household group.
- As each individual signs up, they will be asked to list the other people with whom they will be volunteering, so that we can identify all members of your family/household and make sure you are placed together.
- SignUpGenius doesn’t save your progress when you click off of a sign-up. So before signing up, make sure you have an emergency contact name and phone number ready to enter for each registrant.
Eligibility to volunteer at Big Give 2022
- Volunteering at The Big Give is open to volunteers ages 10+, depending on the role. Please read the activity descriptions in SignUpGenius (linked below) carefully, as they include details about age requirements.
- Volunteers younger than 18 must volunteer alongside a parent or guardian (both the minor and the adult must be registered as volunteers).
- Proof of vaccination will be required from all volunteers at the event, and you will be asked to show proof of vaccination at volunteer check-in.
- Certain volunteer roles are especially well-suited to those who speak Korean and/or Spanish. This is indicated in the description of the role.
– COVID-19 On-Site Safety Protocols –
All on-site activities will be conducted according to the Karsh Center’s on-site COVID-19 safety protocols. All registered volunteers are expected to follow these protocols, including a requirement to wear a mask while on-site/at the event.
