On Friday, August 13, the Karsh Center, in collaboration with Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center, hosted our Back to School event, welcoming hundreds of children, youth and their families to a resource fair on Hobart Boulevard, just outside of the Karsh Center, and to pick up supplies and start the school year ready for success.
Over the course of the day, Karsh Center staff and volunteers and staff from the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center provided 484 students ages 4 to 17 and their families with book bags, school supplies, and grocery bags. Families were also invited to visit representatives from QueensCare, PACE, KEEN LA, Chrysalis, Housing Rights Center, and 24 Hour Home Care, who provided resources and information for the whole family, especially during this time of transition back to school.
Our deep thanks to L.A. Care for sponsoring this event and providing the support to make this special day possible.
We are grateful also to our dedicated volunteers, who shared roughly 50 hours of time preparing backpacks and groceries, and helping at the event. Our thanks also to our Collaborator, Baby2Baby, for additional school supplies to share with our community to help start the year off right.
“Back to school” holds new weight this year, especially as many students transition out of zoom classrooms — or prepare to start school for the first time. We wish all of the students, families, and educators in our community an exciting, fun, and safe start to this school year!
